Sometimes you know something but, you just want to pretend you don’t. I kind of knew something yesterday (for the last bunch of days actually) but it was just confirmed this morning. I took my little pal to the vet and sure enough she is very close to the end. I was given the option of having her put down today or opting to try and get her more comfortable if only to stave off the inevitable for a brief time and to ease her pain. I chose the latter (though I have to wonder whether I did the right thing and whether it was in her best interests or guiltily mine).
Suffice to say it is a hard thing to contemplate a world without such a wonderfully small ball of fluff. Perhaps the most terrible thing was cradling her in my arms in the vets office, stroking her and having her purr away contentedly. I love that little creature and my heart breaks knowing she will soon not be a part of my life.

Oh PJ, I'm so sorry to hear this. But she knows she's been loved during her life, and now the rest of us know this as well. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thanks so much for your kind words Elayne. I questioned whether or not I could have taken better care of her somehow but the vet told me there was nothing I could have done and she is at the very least 14 years old (maybe even older).
I figured I would have to deal with this eventually but I didn’t expect it so soon and it really is staggering. It’s never fun to deal with loss but, life is precious and this just reinforces that.
